National Science and Technology Day is an activity to memorize the issue of ‘Law of the People's Republic of China on Popularization of Science and Technology’. On June 29, 2002, ‘Law of the People's Republic of China on Popularization of Science and Technology’ was issued and put into effect, indicating popularization of science and technology was legalized. From 2003, China Association for Science and Technology organized Science and Technology Day with associations of respective levels to construct an atmosphere of trusting science, loving science and using science, carrying out public and social activities of popularization of science and technology continuously.　　

　　In order to propagate and implement ‘Law of the People's Republic of China on Popularization of Science and Technology’, propagate scientific outlook on development, improve people’s   scientific and cultural quality, promote comprehensive, harmonious and sustainable development of the economy and society, and promote comprehensive development of the people, National Science and Technology Day made a decision that the third legal holiday in September is the National Science and Technology Day from 2005.
