On December 20, 2019, the 18th Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Mayor Award Final Evaluation Reply was held at the Beijing Association for Science and Technology. Chen Jiaer, Director of the Mayor Award Final Evaluation Committee, Honorary President of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Lemin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kuang Tingyun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wu Yueliang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chen Xiangmei, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Lu Jilian, Director of the Mayor Award Preliminary Review Committee and Professor of the Beijing Institute of Technology, Jing Hairong, Researcher of the Beijing Planetarium, Tao Jianhua, Researcher of the Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Lei Mei, Researcher of the IGSNRR of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, participated in the review. Zhang Xiaohu, Director of the Beijing Youth Science and Technology Center, read the qualification review report, while Professor Lu Jilian read the results of the preliminary review.
The project involved in the final reply covered nine disciplines: engineering, astronomy, environmental science, botany, computer science and technology, biomedical science, chemistry, microbiology and biochemistry. The participants introduced their own subjects, expounded their understanding of scientific research and their feelings about participating in scientific activities, and demonstrated their own strengths and talents in the form of PPT, photos and videos. It fully displayed the technology and humanistic style of the young people in the capital.
In the end, the jury selected 10 Mayor Award winners, who would receive certificates and medals autographed by the mayor of Beijing.
The scientific and technological innovation mayor award for young people in Beijing is co-sponsored by the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission. The selection of the mayor award was to take into account the comprehensive quality of the candidates and to guide young people to practice the core values of socialism in the selection process based on the standards of scientist spirit, scientific morality, scientific ethics, scientific research ethics, scientific research integrity and academic standards. The establishment of the mayor award has set an example for the young people in the capital city, encouraged more young people to participate in science and technology innovation activities, and played an active role in promoting the cultivation of innovative science and technology reserve talents in the capital.
