Today is the fourth National Science and Technology Workers Day of China. We would like, on behalf of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), to extend our sincere greetings and best wishes to all sci-tech workers across the country.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) , guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Chinese sci-tech workers have strived to build China into an innovative country and made prominent contributions to the high-quality development of economy and society. Besides, the all-round fighting against COVID-19 since the outbreak has demonstrated that science and technology have played an important supporting role. Here, we would like to pay our highest respect to the Chinese scientists and technologists.

President Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, replied to a letter from 25 representatives of the sci-tech field ahead of the National Science and Technology Workers Day.

In the letter, Xi highly praised sci-tech workers for their service to the country, fully recognized the achievements accomplished with science and technology in containment of the epidemic, which demonstrated the high importance attached by the CPC Central Committee to science and technology, and the deep care for sci-tech workers.

We sci-tech workers must keep firmly in mind the instructions, shoulder our responsibility, and work harder to strive to make achievements in innovation and creation in the new era.

At present, the world is undergoing profound changes that haven't been seen for a hundred years and forms a historical intersection with the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The tide of technological revolution and industrial transformation is surging.

In the face of the ever-changing international circumstances, sci-tech workers should realize that 'Innovation is the primary driving force for development, and science and technologies are powerful tools to overcome difficulties.' They should recognize the urgency of accelerating the in-depth integration of industry, education and scientific research, fostering new growth points and cultivating new momentum to drive development. They should also strengthen their sense of mission and responsibility to meet global challenges through opening up and cooperation and make contributions to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

We hope sci-tech workers will carry forward the fine traditions and dedicate themselves to serving the country and people. They are expected to carry on the spirit of scientist of the new era, including patriotism, innovation, truth-seeking, sacrifice, collaboration and finding and helping future talents, fulfill their responsibility to serve the country and the people, ignite the passion for creation with patriotism, and turn their allegiance for the country into concrete innovation.

We hope that sci-tech workers have the courage to make breakthroughs in their exploration and research. They should have the courage to conduct independent innovation and pave their own way, fully exploit the advantages of the country's newly type nationwide mechanism, and focus on tackling bottlenecks in key technologies.

Sci-tech workers should adhere to opening-up and innovation, get deeply involved in the global governance in science and technology, and provide technological support for building a community with a shared future for mankind.

We hope that sci-tech workers will promote innovation through collaboration and serve the high-quality development.

Sci-tech workers need to grasp the opportunity of the new round of scientific, technological and industrial revolutions, promote in-depth integration of enterprises, universities and research institutes, and accelerate the translation of scientific and technological advances into practical productive forces, so as to help ensure the stability in employment, finance, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment, and market expectations, as well as the security in job, basic living needs, operations of market entities, food and energy security, stable industrial and supply chains, and the normal functioning of primary-level governments.

Meanwhile, sci-tech workers should serve the development of new infrastructure, technologies, materials, equipment, products and businesses, and cultivate more vibrant entrepreneur entities to create the Chinese quality of technology entrepreneurship in the new era.

Solidarity and unity are called for in the new journey ahead of us. Let's closely unite around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, strengthen the consciousness to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core and keep in alignment; increase confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics; and firmly uphold President Xi's core position in both the CPC Central Committee and the CPC as a whole, and uphold the CPC Central Committee's authority and its centralized, unified leadership.

Let's provide technological support for nurturing new opportunities amid crises, creating new favourable situation from the changes, and make further contributions to building China into a science and technology giant and achieving the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
