On October 9, secretary of Leading Party Members’ Group of BAST Shen Jie chaired a meeting to advance the work on “Beijing Citywide Science Literacy Action Plan Outline (2021-2035)” (“Outline”), which was attended by leadership of BAST, key officers of departments and public institutions of BAST and officers of the Department for Science and Technology Popularization, Department for Societies Affairs, Department for Research and Publicity, Beijing Science Popularization Development and Research Center and Beijing Science Center.  

At the meeting, the Department for Science and Technology Popularization reported the compilation, main contents, innovations and proposed next step of the Outline. Persons chiefly in charge of departments and public institutions of BAST raised respective job assignments, implementation measures and opinions and suggestions by benchmarking against the contents of the Outline in light of respective departments and entities’ duties.  

Secretary Shen Jie emphasized in his speech that all departments and entities are required to leverage the political, advanced and mass character of mass organizations and pool strengths of BAST to conduct various activities strategically, wider and deeper. Encompassing the activities specified in the Outline, the current specific tasks include further revising and perfecting the Outline and ensuring the Outline plays a desired role in the construction of Beijing as an international sci-tech innovation center; preparing the implementation plans for the Outline and integrating opinions and suggestions of all departments and entities into each work breakdown structure; enhancing interfacing and cooperation with central government agencies and departments of the municipal Party committee and municipal government, and establishing interfacing mechanisms; strengthening performance management, defining specific project indicators and drive all contents of the Outline to materialize.
