BAST holds a discussion meeting on integrated development of science, technology, culture and tourism

In order to implement the “Beijing Citywide Science Literacy Action Plan Outline (2021-2035)”, push the integrated development of science, technology, culture and tourism and contribute to development of the capital city and construction of Beijing as a “city of science museums” and a “city of museums”, on the morning of October 13, BAST held a discussion meeting on integrated development of science, technology, culture and tourism at Beijing Science Center. Secretary of Leading Party Members’ Group of BAST Shen Jie attended the meeting, which was chaired by member of Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice President of BAST Chen Weicheng.  

At the discussion meeting, China Science and Technology Museum and Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area delivered keynote speeches on the progress of preparation for establishment of China Consortium of Science and Culture Venues and “E-town· A Town of Science Museums”, while participants exchanged opinions about exploratory efforts of cultural integration in the past years, as well as raised opinions and suggestions on establishing a mechanism for integrated development of science, technology, culture and tourism. All participants unanimously agreed that Beijing enjoys profound cultural legacy, high concentrations of high-tech enterprises and abundant tourist resources, and that the establishment of joint meeting mechanism for integrated development of science, technology, culture and tourism will greatly contribute to integration and pooling of science, technology, culture and tourism resources, creating an integrated ecosystem of science, technology, culture and tourism resources, meeting public needs and constructing Beijing as an international sci-tech innovation center.  

Shen Jie emphasized in his wrap-up speech that there are three prerequisites for establishing a mechanism for integrated development of science, technology, culture and tourism, firstly, increase the political stance, adhere to the highest possible standards, advance the implementation of the Science Literacy Action Plan Outline of the country and Beijing in particular across the board, help improve ‘three qualities” and serve the construction of Beijing as “four centers”; secondly, intensify communication and integration efforts, leverage respective advantages of government departments and mass organizations, pool high-quality resources in various fields, and build an hub-like, service-oriented cross-boundary platform for integration of science, technology, culture and tourism; thirdly, attach great importance to innovation, drive citywide implementation, form citywide campaign, advance mutual empowerment of science, technology, culture and tourism, and meet the public demand for experiencing the beauty of science, culture and art through tourism; fourthly, firmly advance the efforts, remain guided by the government, respond to the construction of China Consortium of Science and Culture Venues and stay aligned with China Association for Science and Technology.
