On October 14, 2021, sponsored by China Association of Senior Scientists and Technologists and Beijing Association for Science and Technology, the home venue event of the 6th National Senior Scientists and Technologists Day & Beijing 17th Senior Scientists and Technologists Day started in Beijing world flower Wonderland Park. Chen Zhili, former State Counselor, Vice Chairman of the 11th NPC Standing Committee and President of CASST, Shu Wei, standing committee member, member of Leading Party Members’ Group and secretary of secretariat of CASST, vice presidents of CASST Chen Xiaoya and Feng Changgen, head of the 10th steering group of the municipal Party committee for Party history learning and education Gu Zhangfei, secretary of Leading Party Members’ Group of BAST Shen Jie and member of Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice President of BAST Meng Fanxing attended the event. Over 400 individuals including representatives of senior scientists and technologists like CAS academician Liu Jiaqi and CAE academician Hu Wenrui gathered at the venue. Vice President of CASST Wang Yanhu hosted the launch ceremony. 

Chen Zhili extended festive greetings and high regards to senior scientists and technologists nationwide. She inspired senior scientists and technologists to deeply carry out the spirit of important speeches of General Secretary Xi Jinping on “July 1st”, seriously study and apprehend Xi Jinping’s important instructions to senior scientists and technologists, forge ahead and play a better role in decision consulting, scientific and technological innovation, science popularization and promoting science and technology to serve people, and to contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Later, Chen Zhili announced the event officially started.

Shen Jie expressed her deep respects for senior scientists and technologists and extended festive greetings to them. She said in her speech that senior scientists and technologists are valuable human resources and CASST is an important part of what CAST does. BAST will support the cause of CASST as always, greatly carry forward the scientist spirit, provide services properly and unite and lead senior scientists and technologists to contribute scientific and technological strengths to the all-round construction of a socialist modern country. 

Under the theme “ode to the centennial history”, this event had senior scientists and technologists look back at the centennial history of the Party through a special theatrical performance, demonstrating the spirit and style of senior scientists and technologists following the Party’s instructions and footsteps and making selfless contributions, with a view to creating a good climate of caring senior scientists and technologists across the society. Meanwhile, by learning the centennial Party history while carrying forward the scientist spirit, this event also showed the spirit and style of senior scientists and technologists in the new era and constituted a vivid presentation of Party history learning and education results of BAST, bound to unite and inspire senior scientists and technologists to better devote themselves to the greater good. 

Officers of related entities and departments of CAST and BAST also attended this event. This event was organized by Beijing Association of Senior Scientists and Technologists and Beijing Service Center for Science and Technology Societies. The whole event was live streamed on www.gmw.cn from beginning and end, watched by senior scientists and technologists nationwide online in real time.
