At a time when internet and new media fully penetrate public life, science communication also faces opportunities and challenges of new development. Faced with the new situation, Beijing Municipal Radio & Television Bureau and Beijing Association for Science and Technology will sign Publicity Cooperation Framework Agreement on December 18, whereby both sides will jointly create a science communication mechanism of “new video/audio + science popularization of the capital”.
This cooperation can be described as achieved without effort. With good cooperation already in place, both sides have made numerous exploratory efforts of science communication using new audiovisual means. With the joint efforts of both sides, a number of on-screen brands such as “New Year’s Eve of Science” and “Beijing Citizens Science Literacy Competition” have become increasingly influential, well received by the general public.
It is said that the this cooperation is intended to further advance innovation in publicity cooperation mechanisms for radio and TV network video and audio in Beijing and the capital’s civic science literacy improvement. This cooperation will allow both sides to achieve synergistic efforts, spur the energy of multiplying effects and encourage practitioners to create more “new audiovisual” choice works for science popularization.
Morphologically, this integration mechanism covers all aspects, including joint conference mechanism, science communication publicity cooperation mechanism, audiovisual choice works cooperation mechanism, new audiovisual science popularization personnel incubation mechanism and high-profile event cooperation mechanism, all designed to advance high-quality, innovative development of the cause of science communication by encompassing carrying forward the scientist spirit, helping improve science literacy of citizens, cultivating all-media science communicators, and publicizing the achievements made in building Beijing into an international sci-tech innovation center.
From another perspective, the cooperation has an important highlight of “newness”. Through sincere cooperation, both sides will actively explore new model, approach and strategy to integrated development of science popularization and “new audiovisual products”, and realize resource sharing, collaborative planning and precise service.
Meanwhile, both sides will jointly create key projects including radio and TV science communication programs, documentaries, cartoons, “new audiovisual” branded events of science popularization and “new audiovisual”scientist advisory panel of science popularization. A series of upcoming key projects can further meet the public demand for science popularization in the capital and lead to improved science literacy, thereby fueling the construction of Beijing as an international sci-tech innovation center.
