On April 24, jointly sponsored by Beijing Youth Science and Technology Center, Beijing Youth Science and Technology Education Association (Beijing Academy of Science and Technology Education Innovation) and the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University, the scientific thoughts and methods salon session III & inauguration ceremony of master biology teacher studio was held at the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University. CAS academician Wei Fuwen, director of Beijing Youth Science and Technology Center, secretary general of Beijing Youth Science and Technology Education Association and research librarian Zhang Xiaohu, President of Beijing Zoological Society and professor of Beijing Normal University Zhang Zhengwang, director of junior and senior middle school biology curriculum standards development program of the Ministry of Education and professor of Beijing Normal University Liu Enshan, Peking University professor Gu Hongya, secretary of the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University Xu Jianyong, Vice Principal of the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University and researcher Gu Yongmei, biology teaching researcher of Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences and special-class teacher Qiao Wenjun and 30 other experts and special-class teachers from Xicheng, Haidian, Shunyi and Changping districts participated in the event.

The master biology teacher studio of Beijing Academy of Science and Technology Education Innovation (“Studio”) gathers famous experts in biological research and biology education in Beijing area to summarize and refine scientific thoughts and methods in biology course, and provide important support for teenagers to learn scientific knowledge and improve their core qualifies through course development, faulty training and top-notched student training, so as to significantly improve science literacy of biology teachers and students and provide important support for cultivation of reserve teenage sci-tech innovators.

Zhang Xiaohu spoke highly of the achievements made at the preparatory stage. He pointed out that cultivation of high-level teenage sci-tech innovators would be impossible without highly accomplished sci-tech teaching staff. In order to help teachers improve their ability to teacher disciplinary thinking and focus more on imparting scientific thoughts and methods in teaching practice, BAST advances the dual upgrading of science popularization, explores new ways of integrating science and education and promotes exemplary courses that bring scientific thoughts and methods into classroom teaching, all supported by a group of scientists typified by academician Wei Fuwen and a group of experts and scholars typified by special-class teacher Qiao Wenjun. He expected the biology studio to continue focusing on practice, play its leading role and make outstanding contributions to the citywide drive to bring scientific thoughts and methods into classroom.
At the meeting, the host of the master biology teacher studio Qiao Wenjun presented the significance and progress of the program. At present, the studio has completed the research development and production of the first phase of disciplinary thinking courses, with the second phase about to be started and extended to the outer suburban districts. Xu Jianyong said this year happened to be the 120th anniversary of the founding of the school and the school will greatly support the program implementation and pursue deep integration of scientific thoughts and methods with classroom teaching, thanks to BAST’s efforts to bringing high-quality science education resources to the school.

During the event, seed teacher representative of the studio and biology teacher of the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University Liu Mingyu and outstanding biology student representative from the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University conducted communication and exchange with the expert team represented by Wei Fuwen through demonstration class presentation, debriefing and written message. Academician Wei spoke highly of achievements of the scientific thoughts and methods program in terms of scientific ideas, believing this program is of great significance to teenagers engaged in scientific research and innovation and is worth useful exploration in many aspects such as life outlook.
Student Wang Qingshi expressed his love for biology in his speech, hoping to continue engaging in scientific research practice with the support of special funding for scientific exploration under the reserve talent program and aspiring to become a sci-tech worker who will contribute to the ecological civilization construction in China.
Zhang Zhengwang. Liu Enshan and Gu Yongya also provided guidance to the program, pointing out that it is very important to cultivate interest of teachers and students in the rapidly growing field of life sciences, especially in practice of scientific thoughts and methods such as logical ideas and modeling which need to be infiltrated therein, believing the program can help find more paths to cultivating sci-tech elites.
