In order to further carry out the spirits of the 6th plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, the central talent work conference and talent work conference of Beijing municipal Party committee, on January 11, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architrave held a talent work conference of the CPC BUCEA Committee. Secretary of Leading Party Members’ Group of BAST Shen Jie and Secretary of Party Committee of BUCEA Jiang Zeting attended the meeting and made speeches. CAE academician Cui Kai, member of Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice President of BAST Chen Weicheng, and leadership members of BUCEA attended the meeting. Standing committee members of CPC BUCEA Committee, specially-engaged professors, members of the academic committee of BUCEA, ,class-1 discipline leaders, high-caliber talent, heads of functional departments, leaders of various schools (departments), deans, teacher representatives and related officers of BAST participated in the meeting.  

At the meeting, Shen Jie and Jiang Zeting jointly unveiled the plaque of BUCEA academician expert workstation. The first academician to reside at the workstation is Cui Kai, CAE academician and director of Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Future Urban Design. The BUCEA academician expert workstation is the first of its kind ever established among colleges and universities in Beijing, backed by BAICFUD, oriented towards meeting the needs of discipline development and technological innovation at BUCEA, and enabled by industry-academia-research cooperation projects to resolve related issues with technological innovation and strategic development of schools; the workstation will gradually establish a long-acting service mechanism to attract academicians and their innovation teams to gather at the school to support the discipline construction, technological innovation and talent cultivation at BUCEA, address significant strategic needs of the country, industry and Beijing, and support the construction of Beijing into “four centers”. In terms of vision, the workstation will focus on key techniques of future urban design, drive interdisciplinary construction, cultivate future “planners”, “designers” and “architects”, and commit itself to generating a batch of influential scientific and technological innovations in the fields of urban renewal and heritage conservation, smart city, green city and resilient city construction.   

At the meeting, BAST signed a strategic cooperation agreement with BUCEA, whereby both sides will jointly conduct high-end academic exchanges, promote innovation in cultivation of scientific and technological talent, facilitate open, integrated development of universities, support scientific decision making of the Party and government and build development and cooperation platforms for science popularization resources. 

Jiang Zeting said the establishment of the workstation is very important for the university to become a high-level, distinctive university and achieve connotative development. Facing the future, the university will leverage the workstation to further fulfill its fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, accelerate the gathering of innovation elements towards advanced and sophisticated disciplines and transformation of scientific and technological innovations and provide greater talent assurance and intellectual support for strategic needs of the country and Beijing and socioeconomic development. The establishment of the academician workstation is one of many innovative moves made by BUCEA to build itself into a leading, high-level distinctive university in terms of faculty.

 Shen Jie said signing of the strategic partnership agreement with BUCEA and establishment of the academician expert workstation will inevitably greatly fuel BUCEA’s efforts to strengthen itself through talent cultivation and pursue high-quality development of its cause. First, highlight the core status of talent and grasp the historic mission endowed by the times. Leverage the talent advantage of BAST and discipline advantages of BUCEA to further effectively straighten out the channel for enabling scientists and technologists to grow personally and professionally. Second, support the citywide science literacy improvement and plough fertile soil for scientific and technological innovation. Make full use of discipline advantages and specialized talent and resources, actively participate in citywide science literacy improvement, and contribute to improvement in citizen science literacy in the capital. Third, build up the association for science and technology at the university and establish a new model of how university-based association for science and technology works. BUCEA is expected to leverage the strategic cooperation to build up its asocation for science and technology closely surrounding the university’s development and talent cultivation needs, fully exploit the “three types” characteristics of BAST to support the university’s association for science and technology to go out and bring in resources in support of high-quality development of the university and to establish new role model among university-level branches of BAST in the capital.
