Assistant Professor - Microbial nanomaterials for environmental novel pollution transformation
Job Summary:
The State Key Laboratory of Environmental Geochemistry, Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is seeking a full-time Research Scientist to study microbial nanomaterials for environmental novel pollution transformation process coupling energy conversion. The Research Specialist will apply sterile microbiology techniques in the preparation of anaerobic chemosynthetic microorganisms. The individual will collect and analyze samples from time-series experiments for microscopy, downstream microscopy techniques, as well as micro spectrum analysis. The position also involves training students in the laboratory, routine data collection, analysis, interpretation and synthesis, managing data according to scientific standards, and synthesizing technical scientific reports and peer-reviewed publications. Other responsibilities include assisting with the general maintenance of laboratory equipment and spaces and other managerial duties under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator. This job combines elements of geology, physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics to study the Earth and its relationship with microbial life. Areas of inquiry range from the atomic and molecular level to the largest scales, from ancient times to the present and into the future. Opportunities will exist for the Research Specialist to present research findings at laboratory and national meetings and to obtain authorship on scientific manuscripts. This is a three to six months appointment, with the possibility of renewal to two years.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in a natural science discipline such as geochemistry, chemistry, or environmental sciences, plus the ability to translate, adapt, and apply this knowledge to cross fields. The candidate should have between 3 and 8 years of experience in a laboratory setting. They should also be self-motivated, organized, attentive to detail, able to work both independently and as part of a team, and have strong oral and written communication skills.
Candidates for either level should have experience in the following:
*Functional nanomaterials
*Advanced microbial oxidation processes
*Mechanism and pathway of intimate coupling of photocatalysts and microorganisms to degrade novel environmental pollutants.
*Photocatalytic microbial waste water treatment
*Coordination, collection, and documentation of samples and data analysis from time-series experiments with minimum supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
*Experience with scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy
*Experience handling laboratory equipment and managing laboratory housekeeping activities
*Experience with X-ray Diffraction, High Resolution Electron Microscopy
*Experience with UV-Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy
*Experience with Raman Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
