The Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) and the American Chemical Society (ACS) renewed their partnership agreement on friendly cooperation during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the 35th CCS Congress in Chongqing on April 11.

Wan Lijun, president of CCS, met with Rigoberto Hernandez, president of ACS, and James Milne, president of ACS Publications, along with their delegation. The two sides held in-depth discussions on key areas including journal publishing, joint academic events and talent development.

During the meeting, Wan extended a warm welcome to the ACS delegation and reflected on the long-standing partnership between the two societies since ACS’s first visit to China in 2005. He noted that the two organizations have achieved fruitful results in personnel exchanges, journal collaboration and academic conferences.

Wan also congratulated ACS on its 150th anniversary, noting that the society’s decision to hold related academic celebrations in China demonstrates its strong commitment to and recognition of the Chinese chemistry community. He emphasized that cooperation between CCS and ACS serves as an important bridge connecting the global chemistry community and advancing the discipline. Looking ahead, Wan expressed hope that both sides would further expand institutionalized collaboration and continue to promote exchanges between Chinese and American chemists, contributing to the global development of chemistry.

Hernandez thanked CCS for its warm hospitality and expressed appreciation for the congratulatory message sent by Wan on the occasion of ACS’s 150th anniversary. He spoke highly of the achievements made through long-term cooperation between the two societies. Noting that the delegation included representatives from key ACS operations such as publishing and society management, Hernandez said the visit underscored the importance ACS attaches to its partnership with CCS. He also expressed expectations for continued collaboration, particularly in supporting international exchanges among young scientists.

Milne highlighted the critical role of journal publishing in facilitating global academic exchange. He noted that China has become one of the most important sources of content for ACS journals, reflecting the strength and growing international impact of Chinese chemical research. He expressed hope for deeper cooperation in publishing to further promote the global dissemination of chemical knowledge.

Senior representatives from both sides attended the meeting. The renewed agreement is expected to further strengthen collaboration between the two organizations and support continued exchanges within the global chemistry community.
