National Conference on International Sci-Tech Cooperation held in Beijing

The National Conference on International Sci-Tech Cooperation was held in Beijing on July 29, to advance the implementation of the guiding principles from the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the second and third plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and the National Sci-tech Conference. The meeting focused on strengthening international sci-tech collaboration to support the nation's goal of becoming a frontrunner in global science and technology.


Chen Jiachang, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, attended and addressed the conference. Also present were Wang Chen, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE); Luo Hui, Executive Secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST); and Lan Yujie, Vice Director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NNSFC).


The conference reviewed the achievements and experiences of international sci-tech cooperation during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), analyzed current challenges and objectives, and outlined key tasks for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). Participants emphasized that the Party’s leadership is the fundamental political guarantee for advancing international sci-tech cooperation in the new era. They agreed that expanding global sci-tech exchanges is essential for achieving greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology.


The meeting called for aligning efforts with the guiding principles of President Xi Jinping's important speeches, enhancing political awareness, and fulfilling responsibilities to implement the tasks set at the National Sci-tech Conference. Key priorities include advancing government and non-governmental international sci-tech exchanges, high-quality implementation of the Belt and Road Science, Technology, and Innovation Cooperation Action Plan, fostering an internationalized research environment, and expanding sci-tech cultural exchanges. These efforts aim to contribute to China's sci-tech self-reliance and modernization drive.


Officials from provincial, regional, and municipal sci-tech departments, as well as representatives from central government bodies, research institutions, and the Ministry of Science and Technology attended the conference.
