Beijing’s 2025 National Science Popularization Month officially kicked off on the morning of September 5 at the Beijing Science Center, marking a strategic shift from single-day, high-intensity campaigns to a month-long, sustained public service model.
Under the theme “Science Changes Life, Innovation Wins the Future,” the launch event blended narrative storytelling, tech-forward displays, and immersive experiences to energize the capital’s drive to elevate public scientific literacy.

The month-long initiative targets five key demographics, youth, farmers, industrial workers, seniors, and government officials, addressing persistent challenges of fragmented messaging and short-lived impact while extending services to the grassroots level. Highlights included an interactive “Science Timeline Corridor” with AI-powered check-ins and robots, followed by the opening video Science Feast, which used spatial transitions and visual effects to chronicle the field’s transformation. Along with these, a flash drama titled The Promise, drawn from frontline stories, showcased decades of dedication by science communicators, complemented by an AI-generated tribute in their honor. Lightning talks bridged cutting-edge research with practical applications, including aerospace innovations and an amphibious rescue drone demonstration. The event also released a guide to the month’s key activities and launched an AI envoy named Xiao Ke to lead virtual tours and build city-wide engagement.
The ceremony was followed by the premiere of the event's theme song, Jingcai Kepu (Spectacular science popularization), which celebrated the dedication of science communicators. The event concluded with a hands-on tour of the Beijing Science Center’s interactive exhibits.
With the Science Month now in full swing, over 30 city-wide events are planned for September. BAST stated it will capitalize on the successful launch with a strategy focused on broad, effective public engagement to ensure activities are not only visible but truly impactful. The long-term vision is to integrate science into daily life, supporting Beijing's development as an international innovation hub and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
